Rep. Blake Moore, R-Utah, vice chair, House Republican Conference and member of the House Ways and Means Committee and its Subcommittee on Health, joined Bill Gassen, president and CEO of Sanford Health and AHA chair-elect, for a fireside chat. While the conversation covered topics including health care access and regulation, the overarching theme was making health care more affordable for both patients and hospitals and health systems.

“The crux of what we need to accomplish is how we make sure we put downward pressure on costs,” said Moore.

As chair of the House Budget Committee Health Care Task Force, Moore says his focus is on three major issues: the administration’s Make America Healthy Again initiative; combating waste, fraud and abuse; and removing burdensome regulations from hospitals and health systems. Moore addressed recent and upcoming House committee hearings on health care affordability, identifying health insurers, drug manufacturers, and hospitals and health systems as all crucial players in the effort to reduce costs.

“There are going to be pain points for insurance companies, hospitals and drug companies,” Moore said. “But we have to find a way to bring all the players together and find a path forward.”
