AHE Presents 2015 Recognition Awards

The Association for the Healthcare Environment (AHE), of the American Hospital Association, has announced the recipients of the 2015 Recognition Awards for excellence in caring for the environment, volunteer service, mentorship and environmental sustainability.

Phoenix Award sponsored by AF&S Products & Services, Inc.: The highest honor bestowed upon an AHE member, the Phoenix was presented to R. Michael Bailey, CHESP, for his unparalleled service and contributions to the advancement of AHE, for exceptional leadership and for demonstration of quality and excellence in the profession.

J. Owen Flynn Award sponsored by Wexford Labs, Inc: Robert Daigle, Manager of Environmental Services, Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, was presented the J. Owen Flynn Memorial award for his service to his community as a volunteer with local youth baseball and through his work in youth sports throughout the United States.

Heart of Healthcare: Dorothy Huffman was awarded the Heart of Healthcare Award. As an integral part of the healthcare team at her facility, she holds herself and her peers accountable for preventing healthcare-associated infections. Her unit is consistently ranked highest for patient experience scores, and she is the one called upon to troubleshoot or retrain if there is a cleanliness or compliance issue in the facility. She is also dedicated to her patients and her coworkers.

ES Department of the Year:
The Environmental Services Department of the Year Award provides national recognition for the significant contributions made by an environmental services department to the overall patient experience and achieving a health care organization's mission. This year recipients were:

  • ES Department of the Year Award: Over 400 beds: Northside Hospital-; Seton Medical Center- Small Hospital
  • ES Department of the Year Certificates of Merit: Under 400 beds: University of
    Washington Medical Center- Large Hospital; Specialty Hospital, Blanchard Valley Hospital, Huntsman Cancer Institute-

Two AHE sponsors were recognized for longevity in strategic support of the environmental services profession and AHE initiatives in shaping professional practice, advancing and promoting the profession and promoting awareness.
