Environmental services technicians serve an important role on the care team. The CHEST training and certification program is a designation setting national standards specifically for environmental services technicians working in health care. The program offers streamlined certification training through its train-the-trainer model. Intended to save organizations’ resources, CHEST workshops empower environmental services leaders and trainers to help technicians bridge the gap between their work and patient outcomes. The program is also intended to increase engagement on the job and improve confidence in cleaning protocols to prevent HAIs. This strategic program covers seven domains critical for frontline environmental services technicians, including cleaning and disinfection; waste handling; floor care; linen handling; infection prevention; safety; and communication.
