Program Overview
Phase One: Infection Prevention Essentials — Online
Four week prior to the face-to-face (pre-conference) component, you'll be welcomed to the online program, given access to program materials, and invited to network with facilitators and fellow learners as part of an exclusive online community of learner-practitioners. In the online community you'll complete a series of self-directed exercises and assignments on the following topics:
- Microbiology Essentials
- Epidemiology Essentials
- Standard and Transmission-based Precautions
Phase Two: In-Person, Face-to-Face Session
Facilitated by nationally-recognized infection prevention experts, the one-day (8-hour) classroom training delves deeply into essential content including:
- The Importance of the Clinical Environment of Care in the Infection Prevention Program
- CMS, OSHA, and EPA Regulations, and CDC Recommendations
- Epidemiology Essentials
- Patient Safety and the Patient Experience of Care
- Emerging Pathogens and Environmental Services Practice
- Principles of Disinfection, and Environmental Cleaning and Monitoring
- Antimicrobial Stewardship
- Control of Transmission in the Health Care Environment
- Outbreak Investigation
Phase Three: Additional Topics — Online and Capstone Project
During Phase 3 you’ll engage in additional self-directed exercises and assignments on these
topics:
- Infection prevention during construction
- Emergency preparedness
- Critical thinking and decision-making methodologies (case study, scenarios)
Capstone Project
Continue the certificate program and your learning experience by completing a capstone project. The project should be centered on a real-world infection prevention challenge. Multifaceted and comprehensive, this authentic learning project will demonstrate the critical knowledge, competencies, methodologies, and skills acquired from the program.
