House introduces bill to authorize AHA-supported Medical Student Education Authorization Act 

The AHA Sept. 24 expressed support for the Medical Student Education Authorization Act (H.R. 5428), legislation introduced in the House Sept. 17 that would authorize a federal program to award grants to public institutes of higher education to expand or support graduate education for physicians. It particularly focuses on states with the most severe primary care provider shortages.

AHA-supported legislation would apply prompt payment standard to MA plans 

The AHA expressed support Sept. 22 to House and Senate sponsors of the Medicare Advantage Prompt Pay Act (H.R. 5454/S. 2879), legislation that would apply a federal prompt payment standard to MA plans to help ensure that health care providers receive timely payments from MA plans for necessary patient services.

CMS Issues Rural Health Transformation Program Application

Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., has withdrawn his amendment to the Senate’s budget reconciliation bill. This withdrawal comes after a vigorous advocacy campaign by the AHA, with the great assistance of our members, to urge senators to vote no on the amendment.

AHA supports bill expanding in-network providers within MA plans 

The AHA Sept. 15 expressed support for the Ensuring Access to Essential Providers Act, legislation that would require Medicare Advantage plans to cover services provided by certain essential community providers, including different types of hospitals that the plans must negotiate with to include in their network.

The House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health Sept. 10 advanced the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act (H.R. 3593), AHA-supported legislation that reauthorizes funding for Title VIII nursing workforce development programs. The bill will next be considered by the full committee.
