Why it's important

Patti Costello, AHE Executive Director

"For environmental services departments, staffing is not only the single largest expense item in the budget, but it can also be one of the most challenging aspects of the operation to manage. They are among the most asked topics by members of AHE, and we have undertaken a project to provide answers and solutions to address challenges.”

Rock Jensen, Consultant, Soriant Healthcare

"One of the things so many of us in AHE have longed for is a set of productivity standards that can help guide us as we establish our staffing schedules. Various organizations use different standards, which may or may not be relative for those of us with membership in AHE. I am excited for the opportunity to be involved with others in AHE in providing feedback with respect to the standards we see being met in our facilities. Most of all I am anxiously anticipating the opportunity to receive the feedback that our membership provides and the resulting standards that are developed which we can reference as we put our staffing schedules together share with our Administrating Teams. If you have not taken the opportunity to complete the time study survey yet, please do so in the coming weeks. You feedback is essential in helping our membership achieve the most accurate standards in our industry."

Nazar Masry, CHESP, T-CHEST, Vice President, Healthcare & Laundry Operations

"As a service provider to the government, having an accurate and justifiable work-loading methodology is one of the most crucial elements of any contract. I envision the AHE staffing tool as a means of deriving at realistic and trusted staffing levels that I can utilize with existing and future contracts. It is stated in all of my government contracts that “services provided will be in accordance with AHE’s Practice Guidance for Healthcare Environmental cleaning”, and I foresee that language to incorporate “AHE staffing tool” in the near future."

Sandra Rials, AHE Director of Education

“This Staffing and Productivity Project is one of the most important and impactful projects we’ve ever undertaken. Environmental services leaders always want to know how their teams can be more productive. With the results and findings from this survey AHE can provide useable data to healthcare leaders – data that will drive productivity.”
